Six Stages From Zero Time To The Flight Deck
Tap each stage to see what you fly, what you earn and what comes next.
Your Route To An Airline Seat
Stages 1 to 5 are the course; stage 6 is paid hour building.
Private Pilot Certificate
Takeoffs, landings, emergencies, first solo, cross-country and night flying at Van Nuys. The foundation every later rating is built on.

Instrument Rating
Flying by reference to instruments, approaches and IFR procedures in the busiest airspace in the West. Los Angeles marine layer gives you real cloud time.

Commercial Pilot Certificate
Precision maneuvers, complex-aircraft time in the Piper Arrow II, and the standards that let you be paid to fly.

Multi-Engine Rating
Twin-engine training in the Piper Seminole: engine failures, single-engine approaches and the systems knowledge airlines expect.

All Three Instructor Ratings
Flight Instructor, Instrument Instructor and Multi-Engine Instructor. These are what let graduates be paid while building the remaining hours to the airline minimum.

Building To The Airline Minimum
Regional airlines hire at the ATP minimum: 1,500 hours, or less with qualifying military or aviation-degree credit. Most graduates build those hours instructing, which is paid work.
We are a Part 61 school, so the restricted ATP minimums for Part 141 degree programs do not apply to our graduates.

Airline Pilot Academy Or Airline Pilot School?
The words are used interchangeably. What matters is how the program is structured.
| LA Flight School (Part 61) | Typical Part 141 airline academy | University aviation degree | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Start date | Any week | Cohort dates | Semester start |
| Schedule | 9am–9pm, seven days | Set syllabus pace | Academic calendar |

| ATP minimum | 1,500 hours | 1,500, or 1,250 / 1,000 if part of a qualifying degree | 1,000–1,250 with a qualifying degree |
| Best for | Career changers and adults who need flexibility | Students who want a fixed pace | Students who also want a degree |
Estimate Your Airline Timeline
Pick a goal and how often you can fly. The price is our fixed package price; the timeline is an estimate.
Estimates assume about 1.6 hours per lesson plus time for weather, the written test and the checkride. Financing through Stratus Financial runs up to 15 years, and the school offers an interest-free in-house plan.
What An Airline Career Path Actually Involves
The course ends with you holding Commercial, Instrument, Multi-Engine and three instructor ratings at around 260 hours. The airline minimum is 1,500. The gap is real, and most graduates in this field close it by instructing, which is paid flying.
We publish the price because the decision is a large one: $89,000 fixed for the full course, with financing through Stratus Financial over terms of up to 15 years and an interest-free in-house plan arranged with the school. Check the course page for any current offer.
If you are changing careers, read our career-change guide before you commit. It covers the timeline, the money and the risks without the sales gloss.
