Complex & High-Performance Endorsements at Van Nuys
Endorsements are one-time instructor sign-offs — no checkride, no written — that unlock whole categories of aircraft. We offer the two most valuable: complex in the Piper Arrow, high-performance in the Cirrus SR22 Turbo.
What each one unlocks
Complex — Piper Arrow, $349/hr
Retractable gear, flaps and a controllable-pitch propeller. Training covers gear systems and emergencies, prop and power management, and the expanded flows that come with them. Required by many rental fleets and historically expected of commercial applicants. Typically 5–10 hours of dual, $2,000–$4,000 all-in depending on proficiency.
High-performance — Cirrus SR22 Turbo, $649/hr
Any engine over 200 horsepower needs this sign-off, and ours is the best trainer for it in LA: 310 turbocharged horsepower, Perspective avionics, and the CAPS whole-airframe parachute. You'll learn power management, faster approach profiles and energy discipline. Typically 5–10 hours, $3,500–$7,000 — and it doubles as a Cirrus transition for future SR owners and renters.
Stack them with a rating
Both endorsements pair naturally with commercial training and the $5,100 multi-engine rating — one focused week at Van Nuys can add all three lines to your logbook.
Endorsement questions
No — your instructor endorses your logbook once you demonstrate proficiency. One flight-review-style session at the end, no examiner, no written test.
Any pilot who wants to rent or buy faster aircraft, commercial students building competitive resumes, and pilots stepping up to Cirrus, Bonanza, Mooney or similar aircraft.
Most pilots finish each in 5–10 hours of dual instruction — a weekend or a focused week covers both.
No. Like your certificate, an endorsement is earned once and held for life.
