Your confirmation arrives in writing
A confirmation email goes to whoever made the booking. Forward it to the other person — it saves the classic morning-of text asking what time it was again.

We call the day before — and we will ask about both of you
The day-before call confirms weather and timing, and this time it covers one extra thing: who is flying, and roughly what the two of you weigh. That is not a personal question, it is how we work out fuel, seating and balance for a three-person load.
We will also tell you exactly when to get there.

You both turn up together
Come to Suite 108A together if you can — the briefing is for both of you and it is more fun that way. Decide on the way over who wants the left seat first; it is easier than deciding in the car park.

Getting to the right door
7900 Balboa Blvd is a shared multi-tenant hangar complex at Van Nuys Airport with several unrelated aviation businesses in it. If you are arriving separately, send the other person the photo below and the suite number — that is genuinely all they need.
Head for Suite 108A. Not the address on its own — the suite.
Parking is out front. If either of you is going in circles, call (818) 290-8249 and someone will come out and find you.

The same short list, twice
Both of you need these — not just the one who booked.
Photo ID for each of you
Two people, two IDs. Driver licence or passport is fine.
Closed-toe shoes, both of you
You will both be on the ramp and stepping onto the wing to get in. Trainers, boots, anything with a proper sole.
A layer each
Whoever ends up in the back tends to feel the temperature differently to the person in the front — bring something you can take off.
Sunglasses
Two pairs. The person not flying spends most of the hour looking out of the window.
One camera, one photographer
This is the quiet advantage of flying two-up: whoever is not at the controls gets the shot the solo customers never manage.
Decide the running order before you arrive. Who flies first is entirely up to you, and it does not change the price or the hour. Every aircraft also has weight limits for safety — we will confirm those with you on the day-before call, so there is nothing to work out yourselves.
How an hour splits between two people
The shape of it is the same as a solo flight; the difference is that there are two of you in it.
One briefing, both of you in it
Your instructor sits you both down and covers what the controls do and what the flight looks like. Neither of you is a spectator here — the person not flying first still needs to know what is happening, because in a while it will be their turn.
The walkaround, done together
Fuel, oil, tyres, control surfaces. Both of you follow it round. It is the moment the aeroplane stops being an idea and starts being a machine you are about to take somewhere.
Getting in, and who sits where
One of you takes the left seat next to the instructor; the other sits behind with a headset on and hears every word of it. You are on the intercom together — you can talk to each other the whole flight, which most people do not expect.
Your instructor will tell you on the day which aircraft you are in and how the seating works for it.
Takeoff, and the first person flies
Van Nuys tower in your ears, a busy field around you, and then the ground drops away. Out of the pattern, the instructor hands the controls over and the first of you is flying the aeroplane.
You swap, and the second person flies
The point of this booking. Both of you get real time at the controls — not a token thirty seconds. Your instructor will explain on the day exactly how and where they do the swap.
Down, debriefed, and a logbook entry each
Back on the ramp, a few minutes talking about what you both did, and a logbook entry.
Ask your instructor what your entry means if either of you wants to carry on — the honest answer is better coming from them than from a web page.
Weather is the one thing neither of us controls
Low cloud, strong wind or poor visibility and the flight does not go. With two of you booked around one date that is more annoying, so we watch it carefully and we tell you as early as we honestly can.
We call you — you do not have to chase us. If it is borderline the day before, we will say so and often make the final call in the morning rather than cancel a flight that turns out fine.
A weather cancellation costs you nothing and is not lost — we move you both to another day that works. If one of you can no longer make the date, call or text (818) 290-8249 and we will sort it out.
