Camarillo Lunch Flight — Booking Confirmed
Three steps — and one thing to do at your end
This booking asks slightly more of your diary than the others do.
-
Your confirmation arrives in writing
An email with your date and time. Send it to whoever is coming with you.
-
We call the day before and check the weather at both ends
This is the difference with a cross-country. It is entirely possible for Van Nuys to be clear and blue while the coast sits under low cloud, so we look at the weather at Camarillo as well as here before we say yes.
We will confirm your arrival time on the same call, and give you a realistic idea of when you will be back.

Keep the rest of the day loose
Two flights, a landing at an unfamiliar airport and a meal in the middle. Do not book anything immediately afterwards. Things that shift a schedule — a busy circuit, a slow lunch, a wind change — are normal, and none of them matter if your afternoon is free.

Getting to the right door
7900 Balboa Blvd is a shared multi-tenant hangar complex at Van Nuys Airport with several unrelated aviation businesses in it. The street number alone drops you in the car park; the suite number is what actually finds us.
Head for Suite 108A. This is where the trip starts, where the planning happens, and where you will come back to at the end of it.
Parking is out front. Arriving separately? Send the other person the photo and the suite number — or call (818) 290-8249 and someone will come out.

Pack for a morning out, not for an hour
This is the one booking where what you bring actually matters, because you will be away from the building for a while.
Photo ID for each of you
Both of you, and keep it on you — you are landing at a second airport.
Closed-toe shoes
You will be on two different ramps and walking to lunch at the far end. Comfortable and closed-toe.
A proper layer each
Van Nuys and the coast do not feel the same. It can be noticeably cooler and breezier nearer the ocean than it was when you took off.
Sunglasses
You are flying west and back east. Both of you will want them.
A card for lunch
Bring one so nobody is caught out at the table.
Camera or phone
Whoever is not flying that leg gets the shots — and a landing at an airport you have never seen from the air before.
We will confirm the lunch arrangements when we call you. Bring a card either way. As with any flight there are weight limits for the aircraft — that matters a little more on a longer trip because of the fuel involved, and we will go through it with you on the day-before call.
A half-day, told in order
The shape of this is completely different to an hour in the local area. Here is how it runs.
You plan a route before you fly it
This is a cross-country, so it starts with a proper briefing: where you are going, what the weather is doing along the way, how long each leg takes, how much fuel that needs. You are not just going flying, you are going somewhere, and the planning is half of what makes it feel like real aviation.
Your instructor will confirm which aircraft you are taking on the day.
Walkaround, then out of a busy Van Nuys
The usual checks with your instructor — fuel, oil, control surfaces, tyres — and then a departure from one of the busiest general-aviation airports in the country, with the radio alive the whole way out.
The leg west, with one of you flying it
Out of the Valley and toward the coast. The terrain changes underneath you and the air often changes with it. Whoever is in the left seat has the controls for this leg while the other has the better camera angle and the same view.
A second tower, a second airport, a real landing
Camarillo is a different field with a different tower and a different circuit, and you will hear your instructor switch frequencies and set it all up. Landing somewhere you have never been is the moment this stops feeling like a lesson and starts feeling like travel. You park on the ramp and shut down.
Lunch, on the field, with the aircraft parked outside
You walk from the aeroplane to the restaurant on the field and eat with the airport in front of you. It is an extremely specific pleasure and it is why this booking exists. Nobody is rushing you.
The leg home — and the other one flies it
Back out to the aircraft, a fresh check, and home the other way, with the seats swapped so both of you get real time at the controls across the day. Van Nuys from the west in the afternoon is a genuinely good way to finish.
Back at Suite 108A, and a logbook entry
Shut down, walk in, and debrief over what turned out to be a lot more than a flight.
Ask your instructor what your logbook entry means for you — they will give you the accurate version.
Two airports means two lots of weather
Every flight depends on the weather. This one depends on it in two places at once. The coast can be sitting under low cloud while Van Nuys is perfectly clear, and if Camarillo is not usable then the trip does not work, however good it looks out of our window.
That makes this the booking most likely to move, and we would rather tell you that up front than surprise you. We watch both ends, we call you the day before, and if it is marginal we will often make the final decision on the morning.
If we move it for weather it costs you nothing and nothing is lost — we find another half-day that suits you both. Call or text (818) 290-8249, 9 AM to 9 PM.
Ask us first — this one has more moving parts
Timing, lunch, who flies which leg, what happens if the coast is fogged in. All worth a two-minute conversation.

This is roughly what owning the skill looks like
A cross-country, two towers, a landing away from home and lunch in the middle — that is what flying is for once the training is done. If either of you wants to know what it takes to do this on your own, come and sit down with us for half an hour.
